It's Been TOOO Long...

So much has happened since April - it's hard to remember it all - but I'll make an attempt:

Blaine and I went down to Utah for our 20th Anniversary and returned to the Jordan River temple where we were married. We hadn't been back to that temple since we were married - it was a wonderful weekend!! Very peaceful, comforting, and relaxing. It was GREAT to be in a big city again...we went to a Brazilian restaurant, spent the day in the temple, ate at our favorite fast food places that aren't in Rexburg, went to a science musuem and the Gateway mall, and finished with going out to sushi with my brother! Most wonderful!!

Brandon went on vacation with family friends to the Washington coast at the end of the school year.

Brandon had his 16th Birthday on June 5 and Sarah turned 14 on June 6!

Blaine took part 2 of 3 for his Special Education teaching certificate and passed with a "DISTINGUISHED" score!!

Blaine interviewed for a teaching position at the High School and was offered a job to teach MATH!!!!! (Huge emotional and mental relief - after being out of work for nearly a year) MORE testing will now be required...

Sarah was riding double bareback on a horse and fell off head first onto the street...resulting in a 3" fracture in the thickest part of her skull and internal bleeding from a torn vein which caused a bloodclot. She spent two nights in the hospital and since then she has had a miraculous recovery and is blessed to be returning to her regular physical activities this week. Unfortunately she missed out on Girls Camp, Ballroom Dance Camp, our Youth Trek, and family vacation had to be postponed.

Kayla was promoted to shift manager at Burger King and has passed all of her tests to achieve that position!

All of our family (except Kayla) attended Marci's family reunion at the beginning of July and had a wonderful time - just across the border in WYOMING! It was great to see family from Missouri again.

Kayla has started dating other people again...

Brandon went to the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia accompanied by a US and Church History tour. He was gone for nearly 3 weeks and Matthew had to learn to get along without his older brother!! We all missed him much!

Blaine passed his MATH examination test to be certified to teach HS Math...he studied for only 6 weeks and passed!! On average it takes people one year to prepare for this test. HE IS AWESOME!! (And was very blessed too:) He is now certified to teach Elementary Education and Secondary Math. He has one final exam to study and complete by August 2011. After passing that test he will additionally be certified to teach Special Education.

Brandon started his first job at Burger King yesterday! He will be working nights and weekends and won't have time to even be THINKING about dating!!

Matthew will be starting Kindergarten next week and Brielle will be the only one left at home! She will be happy to stay with Aunt Erin during the day while everyone else is at work or school!

That's been our summer in a nutshell - very, very, BLESSED and HAPPY!!

Just a quick short post...(I can't believe it's been this long!!). Brandon and Sarah competed in ballroom dancing this weekend - for the first time they were able to be partners. They came home with 6 ribbons each - placing in 6 out of 10 entries. We are so proud of them!! I'll post pictures later.

Apostle, Dallin H. Oaks, comes to BYU-Idaho

Last week, President Dallin H. Oaks, one of the twelve apostles of our church, came to speak for our devotional on campus at BYU-Idaho where I work. It was a very interesting and quite sobering. For those of you who are not familiar with him - before he was called as an apostle, he received a law degree and has even served on the Utah Supreme Court in years past. He is very knowledgeable about our government and laws.

"Bubba" (6-Erin's), Matthew (4-Marci's), Breklynn (5-Hillary's), Hayden (4-Erin's), Taycen (3-Hillary's), Brielle (2-Marci's), Mary (2-Shirley's), Lexi (1-Hillary's), and Wyatt (3 months-Erin's). Hillary and Erin are holding up their youngest - I'm sure the 2 teenage girls were busy packing out luggage! :)

The end of June, I decided to go on a road trip with 3 of my sisters: Shirley, Erin, and Hillary and some of our kids...eleven to be exact! The fifteen of us drove to Missouri in 2 minivans for three days; stayed three days; and then drove back for three days. It was a ONCE IN A LIFETIME TRIP!! We had 2 teenage girls: Taylor (18) and Sarah (13) ; Marc (6); Breklynn (5); 2 four-year old boys: Hayden and Matthew; Taycen (3); 2 two-year old girls: Mary and Brielle; and two babies: Lexie and Wyatt!! In case you weren't counting that's 4 in diapers and 1 in pull-ups.

Matthew played T-ball this year for the first time. We signed him up with the city league...he isn't quite old enough (just turning 4) but we snuck him in anyway since Uncle Corey was willing to coach him.

The first day proved to be the challenge - he kept running around where he shouldn't be and when they tried to get him to run the bases he just layed on the ground at second base!! Case in point that you should wait until your kids are old enough to be on the team!! :) We enjoyed watching him learn and Brandon was a GREAT help. I don't think he would have lasted without Brandon's help. BIG BROTHERS ARE AWESOME!!

The SCARE of my Life!!

This morning I left the house about 6:40 am to get Brandon to the high school at 7:00to leave for Band Camp (as far as I knew; the other kids were sleeping). I received a call from Brandon about 8:00 telling me he had forgotten his swim trunks (and allergy/asthma meds!); so all morning I was trying to get prescriptions filled and calling Sarah to "find" his trunks at home! About 10:00 I received a call on my cell phone from an unknown number. When I answered I learned that I was talking to a guy from the Health and Welfare office in Twin Falls, Idaho. He said they had picked up a little boy about 5 years-old by the name of Matthew Nite that was wandering the streets of Twin Falls at 6:45 this morning!!

At this point, I was panick-stricken!! He asked where I worked and could he come and have me identify the boy in pictures...and did I know where my son was. When I explained that my daughter, Sarah, was at home with him while I was working, he confirmed that Matthew had identified that he had a sister named Sarah; and another named, "Briella". I was just SICK to my stomach...but kept thinking "at least he's safe with the authorities" and "How the HECK did he end up in Twin Falls!?!". The guy asked me to call home and confirm if he was there or not.

I called Sarah and she didn't know where he was, but said he was "probably at Erin's house". She said she had seen him that morning in the bathroom about 8:00 or 9:00 (the panic began to ease some at this point because I knew it took longer to drive to Twin Falls than an hour). She walked to Erin's and was able to find him safely there!

As I was returning the guy's phone call, part of me was expecting him not to answer, and I thought maybe somebody was playing a CRUEL, SICK JOKE! He did answer and apologized for giving me ANXIETY!! Being the worrier that I am...I was still worried about giving all this info to a stranger: where I work, who watches the kids, their names, etc. About 11:00, I called our neighbor, who is a police officer, and had him verify the story for me.

Indeed, there was a boy found wandering the streets this morning...they had since found the mother, who's last name is different; and reunited him with his family. He does have a sister named Sarah, but he had misprounounced the other sister's name. When they pulled up information in the system, they "thought" he might have been saying "Briella". They had called my house and talked to Sarah, questioning her about a "Matthew" living there; and if he was visiting "Grandma, in Twin Falls". She gave them my cell number to call me (which was another question I had running through my head when he was talking to me).

Needless to say, I AM SO RELIEVED THAT MY KIDS ARE SAFE!!!! It's been a CRAZY day!

Sarah is finally a teenager...she turned 13 on Saturday!! We can safely say without any error that she now has no brains!! :) Just kidding of course. Sarah and Brandon (who turned 15 on Friday) enjoyed a day at Lagoon (our closest amusement park - in Utah) last week to celebrate their birthdays. Brandon camped out in the backyard on Friday night with Matthew; and Sarah and I enjoyed an evening of shopping in Idaho Falls (with Brielle) for her birthday. She will have a bunch of girlfriends over on Friday night this week to celebrate with them. It's hard to believe how quickly they grow up!! I'm glad we have Matthew and Brielle to enjoy it a little bit longer.

Kayla was offered a RENEWABLE scholarship to Idaho State University this fall!!! We are working on setting up her housing and scheduling her for classes; she starts on August 25.

Brandon officially had his Eagle Scout Board of Review on March 24 (the same day Erin had her SURPRISE baby (6th boy, instead of the girl the doc had predicted)! We are waiting to get our letter back from Nationals and will then hold his Court of Honor!

Sarah is in track for the first time this Spring. I think she will be throwing the discus. She can't make her first meet today, but will have one next week. So far, she is enjoying it!

Another Youth Gone

Well we have lost another young boy in our neighborhood...this one was not such a shock, but is still sad. Brayden Pittsenbarger, 15, died on April 1 last week of cystic fibrosis. He was in Brandon's teacher's quorum, same grade, and they were even on the same ballroom dance team up until he had to quit dancing (due to his health) a couple of years ago. Braydon was a wonderful guy who lived life to it's fullest. He was always smiling and never let his disease stop him from trying anything. He always had a good attitude and endured much in his short life. He will be missed by many. Thanks Barbara and Dave for having such a wonderful son!

Thoughts of Trevor

We had a tragic loss in our neighborhood, church, and school this week. One of Kayla's friends, Trevor Walker (18- a senior in high school), was killed in a car accident on his way to school on Monday morning. Trevor was an exceptional guy - very talented in music (voice and violin), friends with everyone, great student, always trying to better himself, and was very active at church - always happy to help where he could and preparing to be an Elder at church in preparation for his mission for our Church next year. He was a great example to my kids and will be greatly missed by everyone. One of my favorite memories of Trevor was when he and Kayla had their combined 16th birthday party. Trevor and Kayla's birthdays are only 4 days apart so for their "Sweet 16" birthday in 2007 we rented the Junior High School and had a big party with all their friends! Thank you Kim and Melanie for having such a special son! We love you all and will remember you in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days and months that follow!

National Boyscout Jamboree!

Brandon received a letter last month inviting him to participate in the National Boyscout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Virginia for 2 weeks in the summer of 2010! 2010 will also be the 100th anniversary for Boy Scouts and promises to be an even better jamboree. This jamboree is only held once every 4 years, and is a once in a lifetime opportunity for him. He can participate in rapelling, sailing, and scuba diving; in addition, he will be able to tour the National Mall, the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, and other national historical sites. He also has the chance to tour some of the Latter-day Saint (Mormon) historical sites: The Sacred Grove, Fayette Farm, and Kirtland, Ohio instead of touring Boston. They will all end the 2 weeks with a day at an amusement park. There will only be 5 troops formed from our Grand Teton Council. As you can imagine, the cost for such experiences is astronomical ($3000). We have received the blessing of being given a $1000 scholarship from a close family member and will be working to save the rest. Dad and his friend will be hosting a Dutch Oven/Cowboy Music benefit dinner this summer in his behalf; with all profits going toward Brandon's fees. Army's Secret Weapon DISCOVERED...

Today I've discovered what could be the Army's next secret weapon...Matthew! As we went to the dentist office for a third visit to try and fix a cavity he was given the drug, versed, to calm him and make him sleepy. Well, Matthew is one of a handful of people who do not respond well and actually became combative, agitated, and very angry! He accused the dentist of "being a BAD guy", commanded him to "Put your hands up", and then proceeded to shoot him, "Pheeew". He ripped off his earphones, bib, and "nose" (gas mask) and was grabbing at the dentist's glasses. He was totally NOT himself...hitting cars with his fist as we walked by them, stomping his feet, yelling at me and anyone else (shut up, I hate this, I hate that, I'm hungry, etc.), trying to escape his booster seat in the car, crumbling his lunch in his fists, pouring out his drink, and staggering along as he walked, and forgetting things (like where I put his toy...in his pocket). It was quite the surprise and experience today to see my three-year old boy behave as a mean drunk. He just couldn't be reasoned with. I hope he will never get drunk in the future and I will pray for the safety of the community if he ever does! Needless to say after 3 tries we will be waiting until he is a little older to fix that tooth.

Our Thoughts and Prayers

Our thoughts and prayers go out to our neices and nephew - Richard, Kendra, Charlotte, and Winona at the loss of their mother and our former sister-in-law, Carla Gallegos Campbell. She died unexpectedly of a brain aneurism last week. She wasn't even 50 years old yet. Her funeral will be tomorrow, Tuesday, November 18th.

Preschool

Well...Matthew started preschool this week for the Child Development class at the High School. It will only be 4 days a week for 3 weeks, but at least he is getting exposure to other kids outside of church. He was a little clingy the first day, but now by the end of the week he is in the swing of things! One great thing is that there are 4 student teachers from our neighborhood. According to Chelsea Tuesday night, Matthew has been somebody different each day...Spiderman and then Batman. Who knows who he'll be for them next week! As long as he is good, I'm okay with it. She also informed us he has a hard time "sitting still", but we already knew that!!! Good Luck High School Students! Your definetely getting your education now!

Brielle is One-Year Old!

Brielle turned 1-year old on Monday, September 22! We had a party for her on Sunday night...It took her a while to get into the cake, and once she did; she didn't want to stop. Her favorite birthday gift was a new baby doll! She is now 30 1/2 inches tall (still off the chart) and weighs 24 pounds (75 percentile). She still doesn't have much hair to do anything with yet, and is starting to be busier than ever. She is starting to walk and will initiate walking on her own. About the most steps she's ever taken at once is about 10 little baby steps!! She is the master of climbing though...she can climb up on my 5-gallon buckets (used for food storage)in the kitchen and stand up next to the kitchen counter. As well, she can climb upon the couches...we'll need to move the large couch away from the stairwell soon!

Eagle Project Open House/Dedication

Eagle Project - Final Day!!

We finished our final day of landscaping with the largest group ever, 17!! We were able to finish earlier than normal and left by 2:30. The days after we finished laying the sod, it poured rain here! It was a wonderful blessing to the family since they did not have any water hooked up to the home yet. The project was finished for a total of 131 1/2 hours of work!! We will follow up next month with the Court of Honor!! Excellent job, Brandon!

My sister, Hillary, had her third baby yesterday - Thursday, August 21 at 1:28 pm. she weighed in at 8 pounds and 15 ounces and is 19 1/2 inches long. She looks a lot like her older sister, Breklynn.

Brandon's Habitat for Humanity Landscaping Eagle Project

DAY ONE: Well it's been in the planning phase for several months now, and we finally did the first day of physical work yesterday, Saturday, August 16th. Needless to say, some of us are sore! It was great to do the work and we are looking forward to next Saturday with a little bigger youth crew. The Saturday before school starts was a very popular day to be busy, but we were thankful for the help who did come! Thanks Nate, Jason, and Jacob!!! We were very greatful so see some LDS missionaries show up to help mid-morning and look forward to seeing them again in the next couple weeks. Some of the dirt was a compacted clay and was more like breaking up rock. JR's tractor "Oliver" saved the day when he ripped up some of the soil for us. It wasn't until the last hour that our driveway expert thought to hook up his snow plow to his truck and bring it on over to level things out. It was the first time it was used in the month of August!! We ended up staying about an hour longer than anticipated, but got the job done!! Way to go Brandon!!

We just returned from a week and a half vacation to Colorado to visit Blaine's family and as always it's good to be home. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-part trip: 1) The Pioneer Day Celebration in Manassa, Colorado (2-day parade, carnival rides, rodeo, moto-bike competition, demolition derby, and many hamburgers) 2) The FAMILY Reunion at a cabin in the mountains by the Conejos River with all of Blaine's family - Wonderful! and 3) Colorado Springs - Family, Friends, Shopping, Camping and Water Skiing (Brandon), Swimming at the YMCA, and Chipotle Burrito - we hadn't had a Chipotle burrito since Minnesota (yes, it was way good!). Now the countdown begins for school...summer is coming to an end. :(

Well, Kayla finally took her first solo roadtrip...to Pocatello! She took the old family van and navigated her way there and back in one piece, by herself; no other passengers. She went to spend the night with her cousin, Taylor. Way to go Kayla!!

Well, Brandon turned 14 on June 5th; and Sarah turned 12 on June 6th. We celebrated with Brandon while the 2 older girls were at Girl's Camp; and then joined the girls at camp to celebrate Sarah's birthday. I have to say we were the most popular parents there (thanks to the big birthday cake we brought with us!). Brandon was ordained to the office of a Teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood on Sunday, and Sarah graduated from Primary and is now officially in the Young Women's program! We are so very proud of them and their accomplishments and dedication to our Savior, Jesus Christ.

She's trying to get ahead of herself and I have even seen her on her hands and feet (with the butt up in the air) like she wants to walk like a monkey!! A "Published" Poet!

One segment of Kayla's English class this year was poetry. Her teacher submitted one poem of each of the student's into a poetry contest. Kayla received a letter this week that her's was selected to be published in a hardbound book, the 2008 "A Celebration of Young Poets". We are so proud of her and she is so excited!! With this honor also comes the opportunity to be a judge of all those selected to be published in the book. The top ten will receive cash and prizes totally $3000! Good luck Kayla!!

It's May Once Again...

We woke up to several inches of the white stuff on the ground yesterday, May 1; and we are celebrating our 18th Wedding Anniversary this Sunday on May 4. It has been a wonderful 18 years and I feel so blessed to have a wonderful husband and 5 beautiful, healthy children!

After 10 Years...

and 200,000 miles, we finally bought a newer family Van!! Yep, the Plymouth Voyager has now become the teenager mobile...and we have moved on to a 2005 Toyota Sienna. We have somehow managed to stay with a patterned color scheme - 2 green vehicles (Ford Courier, Fiat Strata) 2 white vehicles (Chevy Lumina, Plymouth Voyager, Toyota Corolla - briefly) and now 2 tan vehicles (Ford Explorer and the Toyota Sienna)!

P.S. I never knew how much happiness an old van could bring to a driving teenage daughter! :)

Ballroom Dancing

Brandon and Sarah were in the Gem State Classic competition at the BYU-Idaho campus. Sarah was able to win her first ribbons at this event and took home 2nd place in the Pre-teen Waltz, Bronze level. She also won 6th place in the Pre-teen Waltz, Silver level (more difficult). Since Brandon's level has advanced and he is dancing in the "A" group, the competition is tougher and he wasn't able to add to his ribbon collection this time. He is still an excellent dancer though!

They also had team competitions. Brandon was able to fill in on Sarah's team at the last second because he is one year ahead of Sarah. Brandon's team came in 2nd place. I'm attaching a video clip of his second place Samba routine, "Best Days of Our Life" (he is the second boy from the right in the line-up). Brielle just went for her 4-month check-up and has grown 3 inches and gained 3 pounds in 2 months!! She is now 27 inches long (off the charts) and weighs nearly 16 pounds (90th percentile).

Brielle (pronounced Bree - L') was born Saturday, September 22, 2007 (on her Aunt Shirley's birthday). Yes, she looks just like all the others; especially Kayla when she was a baby! She weighed in at 9 pounds 6 ounces (1 ounce shy of Sarah's birth weight record) and stretched to 21 inches long (1 inch shy of Sarah's birth length record).
